Located in the Dolakha District’s Gaurisankar Conservation Area (GCA), Rolwaling Valley is a remote mountain valley in northeast Nepal. Today marks the beginning of your trek. You start with a jeep drive from Kathmandu to Chhetchhet. After breakfast on the way, the trip proceeds towards Gongur Khola via Charikot. The trek promises an authentic experience as the road access is only up to Chhetchhet; from there, we trek on trails. Lunch will be at Charikot Bazar, followed by a continuation of the journey with scenic views of Gaurisankar Mountain, Melungtse Mountain, and other peaks. The drive passes through rustic villages, Chhetchhet, Jagat village, Tamakoshi Hydropower, and a majestic waterfall. A two-hour hike from Chhetchhet involves crossing the Tamakoshi River and sustainable bridges before reaching Simigaun, where we spend the night.

Lunch will be at Sumurchhe, and after a short break, the journey continue through wooden bridges, thick rhododendron and magnolia forests, and the small settlement area of Kyalche. The Rolwaling Valley trek is moderately challenging and some rugged trails are both up and down but if you are physically fitness you can easily complete it. You will follow the lush dense forests and rocky terrain trails. This trek is fit for all even if you beginner this trek is good for you so before going for the trek exercise yourself and maintain your body healthy, fit, and fine.

  • Trek distance: On the Rolwaling Valley short trek, you will trek approximately 180 kilometers. Daily walking distance ranges from 9 to 12 km.
  • Daily walking hours: The daily walking hours are 5 to 6.
  • Tourist infrastructure: The tourist infrastructure along the Rolwaling Valley trek route is good. You will get comfortable lodges to spend the nights in and enjoy delicious food. Likewise, charging, hot showers, and Wi-Fi services are not available along the trails. It is only available in Simigaun but electricity to charging is available up to Beding village.

Altitude Sickness

The Rolwaling Valley trek takes you at an elevation above 4,000 meters, so there is a risk of altitude sickness. Accommodation and Food during the Trek

Throughout the trek, accommodation will be in teahouses and lodges. These provide basic amenities, including a bed, shared bathrooms, and meals. It is advisable to bring a sleeping bag for added warmth and comfort. Trek includes three meals a day – breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Meals typically consist of traditional Nepali dishes like dal Bhat (lentil soup with rice), vegetables, noodles, soups, and sometimes eggs or meat. It is recommended to stick to vegetarian meals to avoid any issues with food hygiene. While trek carry all toiletries with you including toilet paper. Book accommodations in advance, especially during peak and trekking season otherwise we will not find accommodations in peak season.

  • Service in the Lodge: Services like hot showers, Wi-Fi, and charging are not available overall. But Wi-Fi is only available in the Simigaun including cost which is not mentioned in accommodation packages and to charges mobile, cell phone, camera is available up to Bedging village.
  • Drinking Water: You can buy boiled water in the lodges it takes charge so make sure that if you do not want to buy water then you can use water purification tablets to filter it further.
  • Snacks: Buy light snacks in Kathmandu for the trek. Pack nuts, energy bars, chocolates, and other things you love to eat during your trek journey because on the way you may not find as per your choice of goods.
