It is celebrated as per the Tibetan lunar calendar, which falls between October and November in the English calendar. While you are trekking in the given months, then do not miss this amazing festival.

Lukla is the gateway of the Everest region. Explore it and enjoy the panoramic vistas of surrounding areas and the mountains. Discover Namche Bazar, the trading center of the Everest region, and the town of the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality. Where you can find numerous accommodation facilities and several shops to purchase trekking gear and local handicrafts goods, gift shops, as well as experience cultural immersion. While trekking, you can see the major mountains on the trail: Mount Kusum, Kangaru, Kwangde Ri, Thamserku, Amadablam, Cholatse, Lobuche, Pumori, Cho Oyu, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Mount Everest, etc. So, the sight of the mountains is abundant during the trek.

Essential Information

Everest Base Camp Trek Difficulty

The Everest base camp trek is truly a more challenging trek due to its high altitude, where trekkers can easily get the symptoms of high altitude sickness issues, but people normally say it is moderate as per the trail's perspective. It takes two weeks to complete the Everest Base Camp trek, even though the EBC trek does not require any prior trekking expertise. It is suggested that the trekker should be determined and be physically fit. The trekking routes of the Everest region are up and down hilly sometimes; trekkers should trek through steep and rocky paths, crossing rivers and waterfalls. Trekking trails are well-maintained, and there is a low chance of lost trekkers. Likewise, if you have previous trek experience, then it will help you to complete the trek easily.

Altitude Sickness

The Everest base camp trek is the highest base camp in Nepal, which is situated at an altitude of 5,364 meters/17,598feet. So, of course, there is a high chance of travelers getting altitude sickness symptoms. However, be prepared to keep your body healthy, fit, and fine in every situation. Do regular exercise related to cardiovascular, increase your walking levels, and boost your strength, as well as run every day carrying a 10 kg bag. Drink plenty of water, eat energy bars, and eat meals and seasonal fruits on time to keep your body healthy and fresh. If you have done all these and have previous experience trekking, then it will help you to complete the Everest Base Camp trek. As a trekker, you obviously need to know about altitude sickness symptoms and their prevention while trekking, traveling, and on expeditions, so here we have mentioned the altitude sickness symptoms below; they are as follows:

  • AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) Symptoms: Vomiting, headache, fatigue/malaise, nausea, difficulty in breathing, dizziness, insomnia, loss of appetite, etc.
  • HACE (High Altitude Cerebral Edema) Symptoms: Several headaches, weakness, loss of coordination, slurred speech, disorientation, memory loss, hallucinations (altered mental status), loss of consciousness, seizure, etc.
  • HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema) Symptoms: Dry cough, chest tightness or pain, cough, dyspnea at rest, decreased exercise tolerance, pink froth, shortness of breath, etc.
  • Preventive Measures: Stay hydrated, ascend slowly, maintain your pace, listen to your body, get abundant rest, drink plenty of water using water purification tablets, eat carbohydrate-rich food, and do not drink alcohol or smoke while ascending, and descend as soon as possible if the condition is worse.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance in Nepal is compulsory for all trekkers. It helps to cover the medical insurance of trekkers if he or she gets injuries during their trekking. Likewise, it ensures that you get quick helicopter evacuation and medical assistance services in case of an emergency. While purchasing a travel insurance plan, make sure it covers helicopter evacuation from the Himalayas and medical bills.

The Best Time to Trek

The best time for Nepal trekking is during the spring and autumn seasons due to clear weather, which offers spectacular mountain vistas of the surrounding area. In winter and monsoon seasons the Lukla flights are canceled, so avoid trekking in this season because the weather will be cloudy, rainy, and snowy. The best months are March, April, May, September, October, and November, although these are the good times to trek in the Everest region. During these months you will get the majestic views of several mountains, including Mt. Everest.

Trekking Permits

To enter the Everest region, you need three permits. A TIMS card (trekker’s information management system), Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality fee, and Sagarmatha National Park permit fee are required. The cost of these permits is 10 USD for a TIMS card, 3000 Nepalese rupees for a Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit, and 3000 Nepalese rupees for the Sagarmatha National Park permit. These are all for the trekker’s safety and security as well as to collect data of inflow and outflow.

Accommodation & Food during the Trek

On this 10-day Everest Base Camp  Heli Trek, you will spend the night at a teahouse, lodges, and a hotel. Lodges, teahouses, and hotels are well maintained with good-quality services and luxury accommodations facilities with proper meals as per the tourist's requirements. Rooms are available as per the need, such as single rooms with attached bathrooms, twin beds with attached bathrooms, and couple beds with attached bathrooms. Overall, the Western-style toilets are facilities available for trekkers, even if you want shared bathrooms that are also available in warm hospitality services, which makes you feel like you are at home. Spend the night in lodges, teahouses, or hotels as per your choices. While trekking, carry all toiletries with you, including toilet paper for yourpersonal healthcare.

  • Service in the Lodge, Hotel & Teahouse: Services like hot showers, Wi-Fi, and charging are available with an extra cost, which is not included in the trekking packages.
  • Drinking  Water: You can either buy boiled water in the lodges, which will charge you extra cost and is too expensive, so make sure that if you do not want to buy water, then you can use water purification tablets to filter it further to keep your body fit by drinking plenty of water during the trek.
  • Snacks: Buy light snacks in Kathmandu for the trek. Pack nuts, items, energy bars, chocolates, and other things you love to eat during your trek journey, and if you buy them in the Everest region, it will be so expensive due to the transportation charges whether buy at Lukla or Kathmandu it your choose.
