Mera and Island Peaks Climbing with Amphu Lapcha Pass

Mera Peak is one of the longest glacial walk peaks and the highest peak in Nepal among the 6000 meters above peak. It lies at an altitude of 6,676m/21,247ft above sea level. Which is located in the south side of Nepal in Solukhumbu district. Mera Peak is not a technical peak but it takes a long way in glacial with the help of the main rope. While climbing Mera peak the person has to be physically fitness and well maintain body to adopt with there environment. Mera Peak is the home of the world’s highest trekking peaks containing the world’s highest Mountain, Mount Everest 8,848.86m.

Island Peak is the technical as well as challenging peak which is led by the experienced mountaineering guide to complete this peak. Which is situated at an elevation 6, 189m/20,305ft above sea level and it is also located in the south side of Nepal in the Solukhumbu district. It is technical so climbers have to be prepared for health, and physical fitness well maintain them and have to take lots of climbing-related training and exercises such as hiking, cycling, running, wall climbing, and rock climbing before coming to Nepal for peak climbing.

In this technical peak climbing you have to climb in the fixed ropes up and down with the use of a Jumar (ascender or descender), helmet, harness, belly or ATC guide, lock and unlock carabineers, auxiliary rope and tap sling rope or daisy chain sling rope so on. To climb the island peak person has to be a climber, and well-trained to pass or cross the Amphu Lapcha pass 5,845m/19,177ft for this you need to be physically and mentally fit and the Amphu Lapcha connects the Hinku Valley to the Imja Valley.

The Amphu Lapcha pass is a technical pass so without the climbing experience people cannot cross the pass. In the pass, climbers have to climb up and down through rocky terrains or snow sections and also have so many risks. The Amphu Lapcha pass is typically crossed by experienced mountaineers or the climbers for this climbers have to climb steeply ascend and descend through the glacier and traverse in rocky areas with the help of fixed ropes. It is a remote demanding route that needs careful planning, experienced guides, and proper climbing gear and equipment. This trekking peak combines the beauty of the Everest region with the Sagarmatha National Park and the remote wilderness of the Makalu Barun National Park.

Why do the Mera and Island peaks climb with the Amphu Lapcha pass?

Mera Peak is the highest peak among 6,000 m, and it is not a technical peak climb. It is a glacial walk even though it is a long way. Mainly climbers should have to carry crampons and alpine boots for the glacier walk and harness, unlock and lock carabiners with the help of connecting to the main rope helmet, but the helmet is not compulsory, and an ice ax might be needed at some points.

The Mera Peak trail is the less crowded route, and the trek will take you through the subtropical forest region to the alpine, subalpine, and tundra forests, where you can find the different colors of rhododendron flower forests, bamboo trees, pine trees, alpine rhododendron trees, varieties of colors of alpine flowers, and other bushes while walking/trekking on the way to Mera Peak. The Mera Peak route is usually ups and downs/ascend and descend through the rocky pass and hills, likewise crossing the rivers, waterfalls, glacial lakes, alpine meadows, and local Kharka, and so on. Trekkers have to trek through the remote wilderness of the Makalu Barun National Park areas for the Mera Peak summit. Mera Peak offers the majestic 360-degree panoramic views of five mountains over 8,000 m. Mount Everest (8,848 m), Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Makalu (8,485 m), and Cho Oyu (8,201 m), as well as many other peaks of the Khumbu Region.

Island Peak has two ways to go: one is by entering the Sagarmatha National Park, and another one is from the Makalu Barun National Park areas, but from this area, trekkers should be climbers to pass the challenging and technical pass Amphu Lapcha. Amphu Lapcha Pass is not easy to pass; the person should be a climber or mountaineer and well prepared both physically and mentally to complete it. From the Sagarmatha National Park side, it is easy; there is no need to cross the Amphu Lapcha Pass or any other pass. In our itinerary, we designed two peaks in one season so that it will be easy for the climbers who are eager to achieve two peaks in one mountain climbing season.

Amphu Lapcha Pass for the island peak climbing routes is a steep ascent and descent through the rocky terrains using ropes with the help of a jumar for climbing up and rappelling down with the help of an ATC guide/belly device and lock/unlock carbineers. For this, a person should be well trained to use it in fixed-line ropes. To reach Island Peak, it takes 4 or 5 days from the Mera Peak side. This route is only used by climbers/mountaineers during peak climbing seasons. Island Peak provides breathtaking views of the world’s highest Mt. Everest (8,848.86 m/29,031.7 ft.), the world’s fourth tallest Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m/27,940 ft.), and the world’s fifth tallest Mt. Makalu (8,463 m/27,765 ft.), and several other 6,000/7,000 peaks.

At last, we designed the Mera and Island peaks with Amphu Lapcha Pass for the climbers who are searching for two peaks in one mountaineering season. This itinerary will be helpful for them to fulfill their dream of experiencing and achieving the two peaks successfully, as well as for many people who wanted to see and experience Mt. Everest and the region’s diverse cultures, the lifestyle of Sherpa people, and their history. It will also fulfill your Everest region dreams.
